该项目主要目的在于加强瑞典卡瑞琳斯卡学院医学流行病学与统计系与华中科技大学同济医学院公共卫生学院间的科研、教学和培训方面的深入合作。合作双方将共享瑞典方约2万人和中方约5万人的流行病学资料和数据。重点研究慢性疾病，特别是冠心病和上消化道癌症的病因学机制，探讨遗传因素、环境因素及遗传-环境交互作用在冠心病和上消化道癌症发生发展中的作用，分别建立冠心病和上消化道癌症预测预警模型，筛选高危易感人群。同时，通过在分子流行病学方面的师资互访和合作，培养年轻的科研人员掌握科学的研究方法，成长为该领域优秀的独立科研工作者。另外，华中科技大学和瑞典卡瑞斯卡学院将在分子流行病学方面开展双边合作会议，促进交流。总之，该项目将有望于让华中科技大学和瑞典卡瑞琳斯卡学院合作共赢并建立起长期、稳定和卓有成效的合作关系。

The main objective of this academic exchange program is to promote collaboration in research and education between the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, and School of Public Health, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China. The two sides will share data of cohorts comprising about 20,000 individuals in Sweden and about 50,000 individuals in China. The research aims are to understand the etiology of chronic diseases, with a focus on coronary heart disease and upper gastrointestinal cancers. Specifically, our aims are to explore the influence of main environmental risk factors, host genetic variation, and their interactions in the development of coronary heart disease, as well as to develop risk prediction models of upper gastrointestinal cancers for targeted prevention and screening. For higher education, our long-term objective is to allow interchange and collaboration on molecular epidemiology programs, and to train young researchers to master scientific research methods and grow up as an independent researcher. During the first year (2016) and third year (2018) of the exchange program, a joint workshop on molecular epidemiology will be held in China and Sweden, respectively. This exchange program will hopefully benefit both sides and pave the way for future long-term collaboration.
