Exposure to pesticides may induce potential health risks on humans due to their widespread use. Many childhood diseases such as growth and development dysfunction, and even some adult diseases have been suspected to be linked with prenatal pesticide exposure. However, the causality and dose-effect relationships between long-term environmental exposure to combined pesticides and mental health outcomes of children remain unclear. We aimed to explore the long-term effects of pesticides on physical and mental health during childhood based on a well-established prospective birth cohort study. Our findings will provide scientific evidence on making policies for reduced pesticide uses and childhood disease risks. With the support of NSFC-STINT, the scientific cooperation project between School of Public Health of Fudan University and Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) of Karolinska Institutet will focus on establishing academic links and promoting mutual understanding and scientific research communication among young researchers, and advancing the progress of mini birth cohort study performed at Sheyang County. It would be feasible and effective way for us to train graduate students together. It will benefit to create an interdisciplinary research team and provide for broader collaboration platform of IMM and School of Public Health, Fudan University.
