Good alpha taxonomy is the core of biology. Integrating multiple disciplines to solve taxonomic problems helps avoid failure inherent to single discipline, increases rigor in species delimitation, and accelerates the progress of species delimitation and description. Insects of the subfamily Tettigoniinae are ideal objects to study behavior, phylogeography and conservation biology, which also have importantly economic, cultural and ornamental values. Nonetheless, in China, there are few studies on taxonomy, fauna and behavior and no researches on conservation biology and evolutionary biology about the subfamily. Firstly, we will integrate morphological, acoustic and molecular characters to accurately delimit species of the Tettigoniinae in China by “consistence” or “cumulation” approach. Furthermore, we will conduct researches on the taxonomy, the faunal composition and the protection values of the species in China. We will also explore the population differentiation processes of important genera (species) and document factors which affected the population differentiation. Consequently, The project will illustrate the distribution patterns of species and process of species diversification of the subfamily in China, promote the further development of the disciplines, lay a solid foundation for researches on biodiversity, behavioral ecology, evolutionary biology and conservation biology etc..
