Elmidae, commonly known as raffle beetles, are smaller-sized aquatic beetles in Coleoptera. They are very sensitive to water quality with great value as bio-indicators. They are mainly distributed in Oriental and Palearctic regions. In recent years, a series of revisionary works has dramatically improved our understanding of species diversity in the family Elmidae. However, most genera in Elmidae remain poorly characterized and phylogenetic relationships within the family are unexplored. As the rate of species discovery accelerates, there is a need to better define genera characterists in order to avoid arising newly taxonomic problems. Here we select Elmidae of China as the study object, combined molecular techniques with classical taxonomic methods, based on a combination of molecular and morphological data to study the phylogenetic relationships of Elmidae beetles. The results will first present the phylogenetic relationships of Elmidae, to solve the taxonomic problems of the Elmidae, and to revise the classification system of ELmidae beetles in China.
