The research team has been doing studies on discovery and tracing of natural focus diseases, which show significance in the aspects of public health and biosecurity. In the past 5 years, they have first discovered 3 emerging tickborne diseases in the world, and characterized the pathogens as well as natural foci. The other 3 emerging tickborne diseases have been first reported out of Europe. They have clarified the genomic diversity and evolution of Ebola virus in Sierra Leone, and characterized transmission dynamics and intervention effectiveness of Ebola virus disease. They first identified nosocomial transmission of avian influenza A (H7N9) virus in a hospital, and provided evidence of person to person transmission between unrelated individuals. Their papers have been published on the international peer-reviewed journals, including Nature、N Engl J Med、Lancet Infect Dis、Ann Intern Med、BMJ、PNAS、Clin Infect Dis、Emerg Infect Dis etc. Within the recent five years, a total of 240 SCI papers have been published with a total impact factor (IF) of 1108. The total citation was 2518 in the recent five years. Through close collaboration of the team members, their scientific achievement named “Establishment and Application of the Technical System for Comprehensive Prevention and Control of Emerging Infectious Diseases” was awarded the National First Class Prize for the Progress in Science and Technology in 2011.
