Jingpo Lake World Geopark is located in Ning'an, southeast of Heilongjiang province (128°30′~129°10′ E, 43°46′~44°18′ N), which is the key area for biodiversity conservation in China. It is the transitional zone between Ridge Zhangguangcai of Mount Changbai and Ridge Laoye. Four volcanic craters fostered rare underground forests which vegetation was virgin, well-preserved, and unique because of being remote and protected by natural reserve. Special habitat breed lots of endemic, rare and endangered plants. Members of this project team found that the geopark was rich in bryophytes resources, where was an important species gene pool and provided exceptional ideal natural base to reveal species diversity. Systematic study on bryophytes species diversity of underground forest in volcanic ecosystems will be carried out. Main contents of the project are field investigation on bryophytes communities, collection of specimens, identification of species and construction of herbarium, and all the research work will prevent undiscovered resources from being extinct effectively. And thenfloristic geography and quantitative ecology theoretical methods will be integrated to evaluate species diversity characteristics of bryophytes quantitatively. Results of the project will do favor to illuminate evolutionary geographical origin of bryophytes in China. Moreover, it will provide important information for improving species diversity of bryophytes in Asia and China. In short, this project has a theoretical, ecological and scientific triple value.
