The applicant’s research is focused on the role of inflammation in the occurrence and development of cardiovascular diseases, including atherosclerosis and abdominal aortic aneurysm. The main findings were: 1) IgE was a novel inflammatory molecule and played a critical role in atherogenesis. This was the first report about the function of IgE-induced inflammation in diseases other than hypersensitivity. These results were published on J Clin Invest and got editorial review comments by Circulation Research. 2) NCC was an alternative receptor of IL18. Our research discovered the novel role of NCC as a cytokine receptor besides the well known iron transporter, which contributed to atherogenesis. 3) The new signaling molecules Grx and Melatonin played important roles in regulating atherogenesis. As a corresponding author, the applicant published these findings that were performed in her own lab in China on J Pine Res. In summary, the applicant has published 12 first author papers and 2 co-corresponding papers on the top 5 journals in the cardiovascular research field. The applicant was ever elected as one of the finalists for Louis N. and Arnold M. Katz Basic Science Research Prize for Young Investigators by American Heart Association and won the Harvard Medical School Chinese Distinguish Research Award. The applicant plans to explore the molecular mechanisms of IgE-induced mast cells activation and hypersensitivity in atherogenesis in the following three years.
