Protocols,Mol. Biol.
Lei Shi’s major studies focus on intracellular vesicles transport. Lei Shi’s work is to unravel the mechanism of vesicle fusion driven by SNARE proteins. The major achievements include: (1) answer the question “How many SNAREs are needed in a vesicle fusion event?” at single molecule level by reconstitution of a novel fusion system, settle down the long-term debate on this issue. Soon after the publication on the “Science” journal, this work is chosen and reported by “The Scientist” and commented as “This further emphasizes the importance of these proteins in the process of membrane fusion”. This work is also recommended by F1000 and regarded as “significant advance”; (2) unravel the new mechanism of regulatory protein Munc18; (3) reveal the mechanism of cortical ER formation in eukaryotic cells. Lei Shi has published 10 research papers that had been cited by others for more than 160 times. Lei Shi is first author or corresponding author of 6 papers published on Science,Nature Protocols,Mol. Biol. Cell, BMC Biology and so on. Lei Shi achieved “Qiushi Young Scholar Award” in 2015. Based on above work, Lei Shi plans to study the mechanism of HIV virus fusion mediated by GP41 virus fusion protein.
