突眼隐翅虫是隐翅虫科中的一个较大亚科，全部为肉食性，是一类广泛生活在农林生态系统中的重要捕食性天敌昆虫。全世界已知2属、2891种(亚种)；我国已知2属、504种，约86％的种类为外国人记载，从未进行过大范围系统调查研究。本研究的主要内容是在全国范围内进行大规模采集调查，对我国的突眼隐翅虫亚科进行系统分类修订，总结中国种目录，命名新的分类单元，解决我国突眼隐翅虫在种类鉴定中存在的问题，初步摸清我国的突眼隐翅虫资源，为动物志－突眼隐翅虫亚科的编写奠定基础。这对提高我国昆虫多样性的研究水平、保护和合理利用该类生物资源具有重要的意义。

Steninae is a large subfamily of the rove beetle with all species are predacious. They widely distribute in Agro-forestry ecosystem and are natural enemies of other small insects. Up to the present, two genera with 2891 species (subspecies) of the subfamily have been known of the world and both genera with 504 species have been found from China. However, a comprehensive investigation on whole Chinese fauna of the group has not been made till today, and about 86% Chinese species of the subfamily were described by foreign researchers. The purpose of the project is aimed to make a nationwide field investigation, solve the taxonomic problems, revise the group, conclude the species catalogue and name new taxon. Thus, we may have a profile of Chinese fauna of Steninae and it will be very possible to promote the publication of zoography. As a whole, the project will be significantly important in improving the taxonomic knowledge of the subfamily, protecting and rationally using the biotic resource.
