The applicant has been engaged in the multidisciplinary research on molecular and functional imaging. Focusing on studying the mechanism of diabetes-induced lipid metabolism disorder and vascular endothelial dysfunction, the applicant has screened and explored the novel imaging biomarkers, which leads to the development of early detection and intervention of diabetes. The studies have innovatively established a series of multi-modality imaging methods to visualize transplanted endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) in vivo, and revealed dynamically the characteristics of cells survival, proliferation and differentiation after cells transplantation. Moreover, the applicant revealed a novel regulatory mechanism that combining cells transplantation and p38 MAPK pathway inhibitor can promote regenerative repair under fundamental diabetes state, and novelly reported a new therapeutic strategy that treating diabetic complications with EPCs transplantation. These studies not only contribute to the development of key targets and molecular imaging strategies on diabetic multi-organ complications, but also hold great promise to promote the mechanism research of cell therapy in vivo. The applicant is PI in 6 national grants including National Natural Science Foundation Major Program, published 35 papers in past five years, 17 papers as first and/or corresponding author including ACS NANO, BIOMATERIALS and RADIOLOGY. Research results are positively cited and reported by well-known scientific journals, like CHEMICALREVIEWS, written in books including ‘Emerging Trends in Cell and Gene Therapy’. The journal of RADIOLOGY published a well-known expert’s commentary to our paper, titled as ‘new insights with functional MR imaging’. The applicant also won the first Prize of ‘of Ministry of Education Science and Technology Progress Award’ and ‘Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University’.
