Under the background of biodiversity crisis and global climate change, the importance of evidences from biogeography researches in scientific decision-making should be prioritized. Understanding the evolution of biogeographical patterns, modes and mechanisms of speciation of important animal groups is of great value to not only developments of related disciplines, but also policy-making in sustainable development. This program aims to improve our understandings of zoogeographical evolution across spatial and temporal scales, the biogeography in Oriental realm, as well as the speciation of phytophagous insects by using Hormaphidinae, an insect group with years of relatedd studies, as research model. An integrated research scheme incorporating approaches such as GIS, species distribution modeling, molecular phylogenetics and phylogeography will be applied. The results and research scheme of this program are expected to also facilitate the understanding of the evolution of agricultural and forestry pests and provide scientific evidences for policy-making in biodiversity conservation.
