Triploid gibel carp (Carassius auratus gibelio Bloch) has a wide geographic distribution in China, and is one of culture fish species with the most speedy increase in the production capacity. The allogynogenetic gibel carp selected from the limited individuals of Fangzheng gibel carp greatly promoted the development of freshwater aquaculture. The values on both the academic research and resource exploitation were more important since the dual reproduction modes of gynogenesis and bisexuality were revealed. The aims of this study were to survey the genetic resource, to elucidate the ecological distributions, to analyze the evolutionary relationship between triploidgibel carp and diploid cruian carp, to clarify the genetic diversities among different geographical locations, to reveal the ecological and original mechanisms, to investigate the adaptive evolution mechanism of duplicated transferrin genes, and to illuminate the human activity effects on distribution of triploids and diploids. This study will provide the supports for genetic resource evaluation and new culture target breeding in fish.
