Kiwifruit bacterial canker, caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae (Psa), has posed a serious threat to the global kiwifruit industry. Based on abundant Actinidia (kiwifruit) resources being significantly different in the Psa resistance, the inheritance of Psa resistance and discovery of resistance gene is deem to the top priority of kiwifruit study. In this study, the resistance in most of the Actinidia species and varieties will be systematically evaluated by the pathogen infection in field and Psa-V inoculation in lab, respectively. Subsequently, the resistance and fruit characters of progenies driving from inter- and intraspecific crosses will be determined and analysed, to study the inheritance of resistance and correlations with fruit characters. Finally, association study between the Psa-resistance and genomic data in Actinidia species, varieties and hybrid populations will be carried out for exploration and annotation of the resistance genes to Psa. The results will provide the theoretical and practical basis for the resistance breeding of kiwifruit bacterial canker, and further facilitate the sustainable and healthy development of kiwifruit industry.
