The proposer has been dedicated to studying the pathogenesis of diabetes for more than 10 years and made breakthrough findings in regarding to the critical role of immune cells and identification of therapeutic targets in inflammation, insulin resistance and diabetes. In total she has published 37 papers and filed 4 patents. As first or corresponding author, the proposer’s papers have been published in several preeminent peer review journals including Cell (2 papers), Nat Med, Cell Metab and PNAS. Her studies have gained considerable attention in the research area and have been cited more than 1300 times by other researchers (as of March 2015). With the strong support by The Institute of Materia Medica, the proposer has built a research team. The proposer and her research group will continue to exploring the molecular cellular mechanisms of obesity, insulin resistance and diabetes, particularly focusing on the roles of the immune system and nuclear receptor co-repressor. The proposed studies will provide new insights into the immunological pathogenesis of insulin resistance and diabetes and identify the therapeutic targets and lead compounds for this disease in the next 3 years.
