The applicant’s research has focused on the coronary artery disease continuum, from its underlying mechanisms to clinical interventions. With the sustained financial support from the Natural Science Foundation of China, the applicant’s systematic research has led to: 1) the characterization of an internal link between vulnerable vessel and vulnerable myocardium, by establishing a novel evaluation platform for in vivo characterization of vulnerable coronary plaques and quantitative assessment of myocardial perfusion; and 2) the discovery of several nuclear receptors as novel potential therapeutic targets for coronary artery disease, by providing novel insights into the role of metabolic nuclear receptors in the coronary artery disease continuum. The applicant’s research has been the subject of 55 original articles in international peer-reviewed journals, with 23 articles as first or corresponding author (4 paper IF>10) during the past 5 years, and cited in “Braunwald's Heart Disease: A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine (10th edition)” and in the “Chinese Expert Consensus Statement on the management of patients with acute STEMI undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention”. The current application extents his previous observation and focus on the mechanism and intervention of coronary event continuum.
