Tomor Mountain National Nature Reserve of Xinjiang is a typical mix-ecosystem of modern glaciers, mountains, deserts, grasslands and forests. It is an important part of the material exchanging bridge between Siberia, Pamir and Kunlun Mountains, and it contains abundant and unique biological resources. Myxomycetes is one of the most important groups in biodiversity study, however, their quantity and distribution in this area are largely unknown. This study will comprehensively and systematically investigate myxomycetes obtained from field collections and moist chamber cultures (cultured with leaves, bark, deadwood and animal dung) in different seasons, altitudes, microhabitats and vegetation types, and we aim to fully exploit myxomycetes resources in this region, to further investigate myxomycetes evolution with the seasons, altitudes, microhabitats and vegetation types, to clarify the ecological distribution and diversity of myxomycetes in this region, the differences and relations of the myxomycetes ecological distribution and diversity among mainland china, Central Asian neighbours and Europe, to establish a germplasm bank of myxomycetes, and to provide support for further study about the development and utilization of myxomycete resources, myxomycetes evolution and ecological adaptation.
