Oonopidae are very small (usually < 2 mm), free-living, haplogyne spiders, especially rich in tropical and subtropical regions. Covering with dense tropical forest, Southeast Asia is one of the most abundant area in biodiversity and endemic species in the whole world. In the 25 biodiversity hotspots area in the worldwide, 4 of which are belonging to the Southeast Asia. However, the oonopid spider fauna of this region has never been studied systematically. There are a lot of potential new taxa of oonopid spiders awaiting us to discover. In this project, we will carry out a systematic taxonomic research on oonopid spiders of Southeast Asia. Firstly, using classical taxonomic methods, based on the technologies, such as photomicrography, SEM photos and manual drawings, to revise all the known species and describe new genera and new species. Secondly, the project intends to reconstruct the phylogenetic relationships of the Trilacuna genus-group that endemic to Southeast Asia and southwestern mountain area of China based on the morphological and DNA data, to clarify the generic morphological define, to test the monophyly of the genus, and to make scientific inferences and explanation on the origin and differentiation of the genus-group by the combination of the geologic event and climate changes.
