HIV prevalence rate among Chinese college students has been ever increasing rapidly. Very few studies are aimed at the characteristics of social network (SN) of HIV positive college students. We need address that via an effective model to contain HIV transmission among the key population on campus. Our previous studies showed that college students’ awareness of and attention to the severity of HIV/AIDS were insufficient. The self report proportion of male students’ sexual debut with a man was very high up to 10%. This study will be conducted among college students in four HIV severely impacted cities. We will use HIV positive college students as seeds to trace the transmission route to understand the characteristics of different subnetwork as well determine the selection of public opinion leaders (POL). We will explore the predictors of HIV infection among the students by analysis of the generality and specificity of different subnetwork. In addition, we will develop an intervention model with the logic path to achieve a better intervention via increase peer status of the POL based on life-skills training per the theory of Diffusion of Innovation and Life Skills Education. We will identify and train the POL to increase their intervention skills and help them influence their peers with better psycho-social competence and reducing risk behaviors. By doing this, we can motivate more college students to seek HIV testing and counseling voluntarily and contain HIV secondary transmission. We attempts to have a theory exploration on HIV prevention and intervention among college students based on social network and subnetwork analysis to inform policy making in HIV response on college campus.
