Uveitis, a common causes leading to blindness worldwide, has been considered to be caused mainly by autoimmune response. The studies supported by Key Project of Natural Science Foundation focused on the role of regular T cells (Treg) in the development of uveitis and have gained the following achievements:(1) Our study revealed that Treg cells are involved in the development of uveitis. The disturbance of CD4+CD25high Treg in both frequency and function might be one of the most important mechanisms of the development, chronicity and recurrence of VKH disease. (2) Studies on Treg in a uveitis animal model, experimental autoimmune uveoretinitis (EAU), discovered that a significantly increased frequency and immunoregulatory action of CD4+CD25+ Treg cells is associated with the development and regression of EAU. (3) Concerning studies on anterior chamber associated immune deviation (ACAID), our results revealed that four populations of Treg cells were critical in the development of ACAID. Treg cells were found to be able to induce the antigen-specific immune tolerance. (4) We evaluated the outcomes of treatment with various immunosuppressive agents in uveitis and further investigated the possible mechanism involved. We found that immunosuppressive agents may exert their immunosuppressive role by downregulating Th1 a
